Description:
We have slowly worked on the whole landscape, changing it from a generic lawn and oddly shaped shrubs; to a native habitat and food garden. We sheet mulched with cardboard and county mulch to get rid of the lawn and start to revive the soil.
It features a dry creek bed set up to sink and save water in the heavy clay soil. Layers of mulch are put on each year to help the soil retain the moisture nature provides, as well as insulating the soil and providing nutrients. Lots of California and local regionally selected natives attract lots of birds, butterflies, and attention. The rest is food plants, fruit trees and some drought tolerant Mediterranean plants.
This work was all done by the current renter who is a landscape designer and native plant enthusiast.
