Hermosa Beach Community Center, Hermosa Beach, CA

  The large lawn in front of the Community Center was removed, basins to absorb rainwater were created, a roof downspout was directed to the basins, and locally native plants were installed. A retention box (a milk-crate-like structure) was installed below a few of the basins to help with rainwater retention (there is a lot of rainwater coming off a large roof). Gravel was used for the walkway that cuts through the garden. The garden was designed by G3/Green Gardens and funded by a California Proposition 50 IRWM grant.
