Description:
We just built a house and have invested in reducing storm water runoff on our property. A trailer was on site. We recycled 80% of the trailer and built in the cleared area. We only lost one mature laurel oak and two ailing walnut trees to build the house. To help with stormwater, we even installed French drains. With a permeable drive, we have almost no stormwater run-off. We have no grass in the yard portion of our home except in the designated right of way for the town. After building, we left the right of way areas with natural grasses, no sod. All plantings are designed to attract birds and bees. All yard areas are mulch or pavers that do not run off (sunken area) into the road. We have French drains capturing from the room, a turnstone/rock drive and mulch. I would guess at least 90% of the roof runoff is captured and prevented from entering the storm drain. We DO NOT use chemicals.
We did all the work, including the driveway, ourselves. Everything, including drive and plants, was around $8000. The French drains were around $10,000. Would love the join the OFG team!
