  The Surfrider-San Diego Chapter's Ocean Friendly Garden Committee and Buena Vista Audubon volunteers, led by G3/Green Gardens Group, joined forces to fix a local eyesore. The side yard of the Econo Lube building was re-landscaped from dead bermuda grass to a compost-filled bioswale and California native plants. The rain gutter downspout used to go into a trash dumpster area, and then directly to the street within .25 mile of the Ocean. Runoff is now redirected to the landscape. The G3 Watershed Wise Professional Landscape training and certification class, with 40 participants, was held at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center. The last afternoon of the class was devoted to building the bioswale. A week later, 0.6" of rain fell, with no overflow.
