Lawn replacement at County Government Center - Ventura, CA

  This garden is located in front of the Government Center's Hall of Justice, off of the Victoria Ave. side of the property. 1,132 square feet of turf grass was removed with a sod cutter, then contoured to have a slightly bowl shape around an existing drain that takes water to the storm drain. This lowered area will retain rainwater. The area was sheet mulched (decompaction of soil, compost tea was applied, paper laid down, then mulch spread over the paper). Native and climate-appropriate plants were installed. Unfortunately, the downspouts from the roof are directly connected (internal to the building) to the storm drain, so they could not be directed into the garden.
