Description:
The rain runoff from the School's administration office building had been piped to send the rainwater to the street and storm drain. It was cut and piped under a walkway next to the building and directed into a newly formed swale and basin.
Oaks the size of the roof draining to the garden is 3,500 sq. ft. The total area of the MO garden is 2,943 sq. ft. with 1,178 sq. ft being landscaped area with plantings. The remainder of the area was mulched.
The garden was partially installed through 5 class/seminar/hands-on workshops: an introductory class; a hands-on workshop to evaluate the site; a design seminar; a hands-on workshop to contour the site and building healthy, living soil; and a hands-on workshop to install the plants and drip irrigation. Funding was gotten by the Ventura County Watershed Protection District through a state Proposition 84 grant. G3/Green Gardens Group was hired to lead the workshops and create the design. Surfrider-Ventura County OFG volunteers, Laura Bauer and Kathy Nolan, were hired by G3 to lead the class, seminar and workshops.
