  Our house was used as a hands-on workshop for Surfrider's part in the Proposition 84 grant-funded San Diego Sustainable Landscapes Program (SLP). water wise program teaching sheet mulching. Landscape professional John Corning arranged to have the turf cut and removed. John also made arrangements for the mulch to be picked up and delivered. The following day, students from a previous SLP class and volunteers from the Surfrider Foundation came and learned how to cut the sod. Then everyone helped throw it into the rented "low boy" dumpster. We dug out a swale and laid the worm castings and paper down, watered it then covered it all with the mulch. Rainwater is directed into the landscape instead of pooling at the base of the house
