Description:
This backyard was overgrown with weeds, but had the markings of a landscape that had faded long ago. There was several tons of flagstone buried in the soil, a few struggling fruit trees, and an old garden bed.
The homeowner had just built a new home on the lot, so we designed an Ocean Friendly Garden that would accentuate the modern architecture of the house, yet have a natural aesthetic that would provide a sense of comfort and livability.
The landscape includes native and drought tolerant plants, edible plants and herbs, a dry stacked stone wall using the stones that were on site, 2 permeable patios, a walkway with permeable joints, and a large swale that will capture the first flush from the entire roof and driveway of the house.
In addition, we laid a thick layer of compost over the soil followed by a thick layer of mulch. To water the plants, we installed a new drip irrigation system using water efficient techniques.
Note that the photos with this report are of the recently completed landscape, but the deck and fence for the house were not yet completed, so we only have a few shots of the yard. I will update photos if possible once those parts of the project are complete.
