Description:
The front yard initially consisted of approximately 500 square feet of a Bermuda grass mix, with a few Lavender, Rose Bushes, and shrubs mixed in.
We removed the lawn, rototilled the soil, hauled away excess dirt, laid down biodegradable compost paper sheeting, and constructed a swale in the southern half of the front yard. Next we selected native species including: Purple Sage, Rock Rose, SB Daisy, Achillea, Lavender, Verbena, Canyon Prince, Rosemary, Juncus Carman, Salvia, Buckwheat, Sundrops and CA Fuchsia. The rest of the front yard is covered in mulch from Ventura's Cornucopia Community Garden.
Laura Oergel (Executive of the Ventura County Surfrider Chapter Ocean Friendly Gardens Group) and I coordinated on design, plant selection, and labor. Laura's crew did the majority of the manual labor and I helped where I could.
