Turf conversion - San Diego, CA

Our house was used as a hands on class for Surfrider's part in the Proposition 84 grant-funded San Diego Sustainable Landscapes Program. water wise program teaching sheet mulching. Landscape professional Lisa Bellora arranged to have the turf cut and removed. A small part was left as an example for the class. She also made arrangements for the mulch to be picked up and delivered. The following day, students from the class and volunteers from the Surfrider Foundation came and learned how to cut the sod. Then everyone helped throw it into the rented "low boy" dumpster. We dug out a swale and laid the worm castings and paper down, watered it then covered it all with the mulch. We also extended out the rain gutter so it shoots the water into the top of the swale versus pooling at the side of the house
