Alvarado Street Ocean Friendly Garden, Oceanside, CA

Description

This garden is the first San Diego OFG installed at a multi family dwelling! The property owners are also Surfrider members and heard about the OFG Program at a chapter meeting and decided to transform the landscape at their rental property into an Ocean Friendly Garden. The property owners signed up for the the Fall 2011 Basics Class, HOW, & GAP and by doing so their garden became eligible to become part of the OFG learning program.
Installed in the Fall of 2011 the garden includes a flagstone seating area, paths, and California native plants as well as fruiting trees.
Approx. 800 gallons of water per inch of rain is directed into the garden.
Design by Morgan Vondrak of Argia Designs and all of the plant materials, mulch, and river pebbles were installed by wonderful volunteers from the Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter as part of the GAP Day installation!!
